21st August 2017: The National Biodiversity Centre (NBC) in collaboration with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) conducted a one day Capacity Building workshop on Access and Benefit-Sharing Checkpoints for twenty five participants from the National Environment Commission Secretariat, Department of Intellectual Property, the Drug Regulatory Authority, Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority, Legal Unit-Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, the National Biodiversity Centre, UNDP Country Office and Garuda Legal Services. The main aim of the workshop was to raise awareness on the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization and build national capacity to understand the role and working modalities of designated Checkpoints.
The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Kiyoshi Adachi, Legal Officer, Intellectual Property Unit, UNCTAD and was funded by UNCTAD and Nagoya Protocol Implementation project.
