The National Biodiversity Centre successfully conducted the second Regional Consultation Meeting on the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plan (NBSAP) in Trongsa from 21-23 January 2025, with stakeholders from Bumthang, Trongsa, and Zhemgang dzongkhags.

The consultation aimed to facilitate a ground-level review and validation of national targets, strategies, and actions outlined in the NBSAP, while identifying key challenges and opportunities for its implementation. Through focused discussions and brainstorming sessions, participants assessed capacity-building needs, laying the foundation for a comprehensive roadmap to support the effective implementation of the NBSAP.

A diverse group of stakeholders actively participated in the workshop, including dzongkhag sector heads from Agriculture, Livestock, Education, Health, Statistics, Land Records, Engineering, Environment, and Planning. Representatives from local government, community-based organizations, religious institutions, and regional and central programs also contributed valuable insights. Hon’ble Dasho Dzongda of Trongsa Dzongkhag graced the opening session of the workshop.
The workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) and with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Bhutan.
This consultation is part of a broader national effort to strengthen biodiversity conservation through participatory planning and strategic alignment with local, sectoral, national, and international frameworks.
Two more consultation meetings are scheduled to take place in Punakha and Paro in the coming months.
