26 May 2026, Trashigang: An engaging advocacy and sensitization program on biodiversity legislation and the Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) regime in Bhutan was successfully conducted at Trashigang Middle Secondary School, bringing together students in a meaningful discussionย on the importance of conserving Bhutanโs rich natural heritage.
The session introduced students to the important conservation efforts carried out by the National Biodiversity Centre (NBC). Through interactive presentations, students learned how Bhutan continues to protect its unique biological resources through strong policies, community participation, and sustainable practices.
Students were also introduced on how these legal frameworks play a crucial role in safeguarding our countryโs rich biological resources and ensure that natural resources are used responsibly and preserved for future generations. The students were also introduced to the Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) framework, explaining how Bhutan ensures that benefits arising from the use of genetic resources are shared fairly and equitably.
The session were very interactive, encouraging students to actively participate. Through open discussions and fun quizzes, participants were able to reflect on their understanding, ask questions, and connect biodiversity concepts to their daily lives. The interest shown by the students made the session lively and impactful.
To further support learning, a collection of biodiversity related publications was presented to the school library, providing students and teachers with valuable resources to continue exploring the subject beyond the program.
Such initiatives play an important role in nurturing environmental stewardship among young minds.
