    The National Biodiversity Centre, Serbithang would like to invite air fare quotation from the eligible ticketing agent for the following sectors, as per the itinerary provided below:

    TERMS AND CONDITIONS

    1. All bids must be submitted in a sealed envelope marked as “Quotation for Air Ticket” to the Program Director, National Biodiversity Centre, MoAF latest by 18th  May, 2018 on/before 11.00AM and will be opened at 11:30am on the same day.
    2. Airline and seats must be confirmed while submitting the quotation and submit confirmed itineraries.
    3. The validation of fares and availability of seats should be as per the details mentioned above.
    4. The successful bidder should submit the photocopy of every air ticket along with their invoices for payment.
    5. Unconditional quotations like an increase of fares or changes of airlines at the time of travel are not accepted, and shall result in forfeiting of EMD.
    6. The quoted air fare has to be valid for 3 weeks.
    7. Tender documents should contain a photocopy of valid trade license issued by Ministry of Economic Affairs.
    8. Tenders should be accompanied with a lump sum amount of Nu.5000/-only as earnest money deposit in the form of draft/cash warrant (Cheque will not be accepted) issued in favour of the Program Director, National Biodiversity Centre.
    9. The earnest money of the lowest evaluated bidder shall be retained with the Centre as performance security deposit and will be returned only after the delivery of the air tickets mentioned in the supply order for the above sector.
    10. The route should be shortest possible with appropriate duration for transits, if any, reasonable boarding timing and in a reliable and safe airline.
    11. The purchaser reserves every right to reject the bids if it is found not responsive to our terms and conditions, and the decision of tender committee will be final and binding.

    Evaluation of bids will be based on fare as well as the availability of confirmed seats, suitability of travel timing and reputation of the airline for safety reason

  • Pollination Workshop underway at College of Natural Resources

    A two-day workshop (30th April – 1st May) on pollination is underway at College of Natural Resources (CNR), Lobeysa. Introduction of pollination and its research needs were discussed with the students, lecturers of College of Natural Resources and officials from the National Plant Protection Centre and the National Biodiversity Centre. Around 40 participants were introduced to the valuation of pollination and research needs in pollination by bees and hoverflies in forested and agricultural lands of Bhutan. Participants were also introduced to the field-based taxonomical research in the agricultural land around Lobeysa. The main aim of the workshop is to encourage and support Bhutanese in studying the pollinators in the context of changing climate. The workshop also aims to develop baseline on the pollination in Bhutan, and publish research papers and field guides, while enhancing the capacity of Bhutanese researchers. Few interested participants were identified to carry out research on pollination including the taxonomy of the pollinators such as bees and hoverflies.

    Resources persons from the Naturalis Biodiversity Center, Netherlands, Dr. Vincent Kalkman, Dr. John Smit and Dr. Theo Zeegers presented on the current status of pollination in Bhutan and future research projects on pollination. The workshop was organized by the National Biodiversity Centre (NBC) in collaboration with College of Natural Resources and is funded by Naturalis Biodiversity Center. This workshop is a part of on-going project on invertebrates between NBC, CNR, UWICER, Sherubtse College, NPPC, and the Naturalis.

  • Nature-based product launch

    Ministry of Agriculture and Forest in collaboration with UNDP CO and by its implementing partners National Biodiversity Centre, MoAF, Menjong Sorig Pharmaceutical Corporation Ltd, MoH and Bio-Bhutan (Pvt. Company) launched nine nature-based products at the Taj Tashi, Thimphu in line with Access and Benefit Sharing framework on 5th April, 2018. The products were anti-wrinkle cream, massage balm, liniment, massage oil, perfume, soaps, and hand sanitizer to support sustainable rural livelihoods.

    The launch was graced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Lyonchen Dasho Tshering Tobgay, and over 90 participants from different agencies, officials from international organizations, private and business entities, and local community representatives from the pilot Access and Benefit Sharing projects sites attended the product launch.

    Speaking at the launch, the Honourable Prime Minister said, “the nature-based products represent the biodiversity hotspot” that Bhutan is known for globally. In line with the products, he said that the nature-based products are not just natural but they are also pristine products from the pristine natural environment of Bhutan. However, he cautioned that Bhutan should use its genetic resources sustainably and we must protect the associated traditional knowledge in using these biological resources.

    Mr. Gerald Daly, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Bhutan, stressed on various threats to biodiversity that Bhutan faces. However, he added that Bhutan has in place various strategies supported both by policy and legal instruments. He said “The access to genetic resources and benefit mechanism (ABS) supported through this project is just one example of innovative approaches to complement the ongoing efforts of the government,” “The ABS mechanism puts ‘people’ at the center of conservation efforts by ensuring economic benefits.”

    The ABS project is supporting collaborations among the government agencies and a private entity by engaging the local communities to support their livelihoods and promote conservation of biological diversity. As the benefits are beginning to manifest in the form of business, employment, research, technology transfer, and capacity development opportunities. The project will promote conservation of biodiversity, sustainable livelihoods and income generating opportunities for the communities.
