22 May 2026: On the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity, the National Biodiversity Centre is pleased to announce the winners of the Wild Bhutan Challenge 2026.
The Challenge was conducted from 1 April to 15 May 2026 to promote biodiversity documentation and strengthen citizen science participation across Bhutan through the Bhutan Biodiversity Portal.

2. Pema Tobgay (1074) – Jomotshangkha Wildlife Sanctuary
3. Tshering Dorji (547) – Wangdue Forest Range

Most Identifications Contributed
1. Karma Jamtsho (987) – Trashigang Range Office
2. Pema Tobgay (798) – Jomotshangkha Wildlife Sanctuary
3. Phuntsho Wangdi (613) – Bumthang Divisional Forest Office

Most Unique Observation
1. Tshering Dorji – Wangdue Forest Range, Wangdue Forest Division

Best Photography
1. Sherub Gyeltshen for Harpactes wardi (Ward’s Trogon) – Tour Guide
2. Karma Wangdi for Pseudois nayaur (Blue sheep) – Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Forestry Research and Training (UWIFoRT)
3. Pema Tobgay for Dysphania militaris (False Tiger Moth) – Jomotshangkha Wildlife Sanctuary



The winners for “Highest Number of Observations” and “Most Identifications Contributed” were directly extracted from the Bhutan Biodiversity Portal based on validated observations and identifications during the challenge period. The “Most Unique Observation” category was selected through expert review and discussion of notable records, while “Best Photography” was evaluated by a panel based on predefined assessment criteria.
