20 May 2026: The National Biodiversity Centre welcomed second-year B.Sc. Forestry students and faculty members from the College of Natural Resources on 20 May 2026 for an educational field visit as part of their Environmental Science coursework on the Biotic Diversity of Bhutan.
During the visit, the students were introduced to the mandates and core conservation programs of the Centre, including the Royal Botanical Garden, National Herbarium, Plant Genetic Resources, Animal Genetic Resources, Biodiversity Information Management, and Bioprospecting and Access and Benefit Sharing initiatives.
The students also participated in an awareness session on the Bhutan Biodiversity Portal (BBP), where they learned about biodiversity documentation, citizen science contributions, and the importance of digital biodiversity data management in conservation planning and research. The session encouraged students to actively contribute biodiversity observations through the platform and engage in biodiversity monitoring efforts.
This was followed by visits to the facilities within the Centre. The field exposure provided students with an opportunity to connect classroom learning with practical conservation work and gain deeper insights into Bhutan’s biodiversity conservation efforts and sustainable utilization initiatives.
