25 May 2026, Trashigang: An advocacy and sensitization program on Bhutanโ€™s biodiversity rules, acts, and the Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) regime was successfully conducted on 25 May 2026 at Rangjung Central School. The program was attended by Class XI and XII students along with teachers of the school.

The session aimed to create awareness among young people about the importance of biodiversity conservation and the legal frameworks established in Bhutan to protect the countryโ€™s rich biological resources. During the program, participants were introduced to the functions and mandates of the National Biodiversity Centre and were also made aware on the biodiversity related rules and acts implemented in the country.

The students and teachers were also sensitized on how the ABS regime is implemented in Bhutan and its significance in ensuring fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the use of biological resources and associated traditional knowledge.

The session was highly interactive, with students actively engaging in discussions and asking thoughtful questions on topics such as cryopreservation, and biodiversity conservation. Their curiosity and participation reflected a growing awareness and concern for environmental sustainability among the youth.

To make the program more engaging, a quiz competition on biodiversity was also conducted, encouraging students to test and expand their knowledge. In addition, biodiversity related books were presented to the students and the school library to further support learning and awareness on environmental conservation. The program concluded with appreciation from the participants, highlighting the importance of educating young minds on biodiversity conservation and Bhutanโ€™s ongoing efforts to safeguard its natural heritage for future generations. The National Biodiversity Centre remains committed to educating and sharing knowledge with our young minds and ensuring that the youths who are the future of the country values the conservation, sustainable use and fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising form the use of biological resources.
