The National Biodiversity Centre (NBC) is pleased to announce the discovery of a new orchid species, Zeuxine drukyulensis, from the warm broadleaved forests of western Bhutan. This discovery brings Bhutan’s Bhutan’s total recorded orchid species to 499, further highlighting the country’s rich floral diversity.

- Scientific Name: Zeuxine drukyulensis
- Habitat: Leaf litter of warm broadleaved forests (approximately 1350 m elevation)
- Height: 10 – 30 cm
- Similar Species: Zeuxine nervosa and Zeuxine rofleana
- Conservation Status: Data Deficient (IUCN) – Further research is needed to assess its distribution and threats
This significant discovery was made by Phub Gyeltshen and his team, further reinforcing the importance of Bhutan’s unique biodiversity. The species name drukyulensis pays tribute to Bhutan, known as the Land of the Thunder Dragon (Drukyul).
