Successful Installation of Sterling Liquid Nitrogen Plant at National Biodiversity Centre

On June 30, 2025, Karma Tshongkhang completed the installation and commissioning of a state-of-the-art Sterling Liquid Nitrogen Plant at the Animal Genetic Resources (AnGR) Program of the National Biodiversity Centre (NBC) in Bhutan. The plant was procured with financial support from the European Union’s “Promoting Inclusive, Sustainable, and Resilient Agri-Food Systems in Bhutan” project.

With a production capacity of 120 liters of liquid nitrogen per day, the facility utilizes advanced cryogenic technology to enable the cryo-preservation of critical genetic materials. Now fully operational, the plant significantly enhances NBC’s ability to conserve genetic diversity and strengthens its commitment to advancing biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

To ensure operational excellence, engineers from the principal company provided comprehensive hands-on training to NBC personnel, equipping them with the expertise needed to effectively manage the facility.

This milestone reinforces NBC’s dedication to preserving genetic resources and promoting sustainable development in Bhutan.
