A second series of the two-day Training Workshops on “Biodiversity, Biopiracy and its relevance in Tourism” for the tour guides conducted from 9 – 10 November from 2nd batch of tour guides at NBC, Serbithang. Around 22 tour guides completed training workshop. The closing ceremony was graced by the Program Director Dr. Karma Dema Dorji of NBC. In addition, the Director General of the Department of Tourism presented on the Brand Bhutan and Bhutan Believe virtually to the guides.

The training is organized by NBC in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, Bhutan (erstwhile Tourism Council of Bhutan) supported by the GEF-UNDP Bhutan as part of Ecotourism project of mainstreaming biodiversity conservation into tourism sector in Bhutan. The main objective of the training workshop is to create awareness on importance of biodiversity conservation and biopiracy and its relevance to tourism to guides as they are the ambassadors of the country for the tourism sector. Further the workshop aimed to garner their support and cooperation in biodiversity conservation and mitigation of biopiracy and misappropriation.

The other series of the workshops will be conducted at Samdrup Jongkhar, Gelephu, Phuentsholing and the Paro International Airport to the relevant stakeholders especially front-Liners involved in tourism sector.
