9 April 2026, Thimphu: The National Biodiversity Centre (NBC), under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Bhutan, is currently conducting a two-day Gender Mainstreaming Training Workshop for Technical Working Group (TWG) members and key stakeholders from 9-10 April 2026 at Jambayang Resort, Thimphu.
This workshop is part of the implementation of the Fifth National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plan (NBSAP), which recognizes gender equality and social inclusion as a cross-cutting priority, including a dedicated Target 15 on gender-responsive biodiversity action.
The training brings together participants from various sectors, including forestry, agriculture, livestock, environment, and partner organizations, to strengthen their capacity to integrate gender-responsive approaches into biodiversity planning and implementation.
Key highlights of the workshop include:
- Presentation of findings from the Gender Analysis conducted for the NBSAP
- Introduction to core gender concepts and national/international policy frameworks
- Hands-on training in gender analysis tools and approaches
- Group exercises based on real-world biodiversity scenarios such as human-wildlife conflict, cordyceps harvesting, and wetland management
Through interactive sessions, discussions, and case studies, the workshop aims to enhance participants’ understanding of gender dynamics and support the development of more inclusive, equitable, and effective biodiversity interventions in Bhutan.
The training adopts a participatory approach, encouraging knowledge sharing and practical application of gender mainstreaming tools that can be further cascaded to community-level stakeholders.
