
The National Biodiversity Centre (NBC) is pleased to announce Wild Bhutan Challenge 2026, a user competition and recognition initiative for the Bhutan Biodiversity Portal to encourage active participation in biodiversity documentation across Bhutan.
This initiative aims to recognise and celebrate the valuable contributions of citizen scientists, nature enthusiasts, students, and researchers who are helping build Bhutan’s biodiversity knowledge base through the Portal.
Competition Categories
Participants will be recognized under the following categories:
- Highest Number of Observations: Awarded to the user with the greatest number of valid observations uploaded during the competition period.
- Most Unique Observation: Awarded for documenting a species or location that has not been previously recorded on the Portal.
- Highest Number of Species Identifications: Awarded to the user with the greatest number of species suggestions or confirmations contributed to observations uploaded on the Portal during the competition period.
- Most Beautiful Observation/Best Photography: Awarded to the most visually captivating and well-documented observation.
Timeline
- Competition Period: 1 April 2026 to 15 May 2026 (Only observations made within this period will be considered)
- Announcement of Results: 22 May 2026, on the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity.
Awards
Winners of each category will receive certificates and attractive prizes in recognition of their contributions.
Who Can Participate?
The competition is open to all registered users of the Bhutan Biodiversity Portal. New users are encouraged to register and participate.
How to Participate
1. Log in to the Bhutan Biodiversity Portal
2. Upload your biodiversity observations (flora, fauna, fungi, etc.)
3. Ensure observations include clear photographs, accurate location details, and other relevant information
