

Thimphu, March 30, 2026: A total of 26 students from various universities in U.S.A visited the National Biodiversity Centre (NBC) as part of an ongoing collaboration between the Bhutan Ecological Society, the Royal University of Bhutan and the School for Field Studies.
The students’ visit to NBC today was intended to offer them an opportunity to learn about the country’s efforts in ex situ conservation. The students were introduced to various activities in biodiversity conservation undertaken to promote the rich biodiversity of the country outside natural habitats.
The students took a tour of some of the key facilities within the NBC to learn about the process of biodiversity conservation.
An interactive session also took place, where students interacted with NBC officials on various topics. Discussions focused on how institutional collaborations are developed and sustained, the legal instruments governing biodiversity conservation in Bhutan, and the role of access and benefit-sharing frameworks in research and resource management.The students were able to learn about the process of developing an association with an institution, legal instruments governing biodiversity, and access and benefit-sharing.
Such collaborations are creating an opportunity for academic institutions to strengthen their association, which would be beneficial in the future in creating capacity for students who wish to pursue careers in the field of biodiversity.
National Biodiversity Centre remains committed to supporting such educational visits and facilitating knowledge exchange. It continues to play an active role in capacity building, partnership development, and inspiration of future professionals in the field of biodiversity conservation through the provision of learning opportunities.
