Eleven teachers from the Science Department of Lungtenphu Middle Secondary School visited the National Biodiversity Centre (NBC) as part of a study tour aimed at enhancing their understanding of conservation initiatives and scientific work carried out at the Centre.

During the visit, the teachers were introduced to the Centre’s core initiatives in the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of biodiversity, and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from genetic resources.

The visit focused on opportunities to bridge science education with technical programs at NBC, specifically in linking classroom topics and theoretical concepts with practical applications carried out by different technical programs of the centre.  Specifically, the teachers were presented with research activities and existing facilities of NBC, such as DNA and bioprospecting laboratories, herbarium, micro-propagation facility, and agro-biodiversity biorespositories (Seed and animal genebanks) which could be used to expose students to real-life applications of the science education.  The program also included a discussion on the possibility of organizing future field visits for students and identifying possible educational activities that could be integrated into such visits.

The visit concluded with a guided tour of NBC’s laboratories and research facilities, providing the teachers with first-hand experience of the Centre’s work in biodiversity conservation.
