
The National Biodiversity Centre (NBC) is pleased to welcome Dr. David Willtams, a highly experienced tissue culture mentor from the Australian Volunteers Program. Dr. Willyams holds a PhD in Biology with expertise in horticulture and ecological restoration, and brings more than 45 years of experience in a wide range of plant technologies. His work has addressed challenges in horticulture, plant propagation, biotechnology, plant conservation, mine rehabilitation, and ecological restoration.
During his placement, Dr. Willyams will work closely with the team at the Royal Botanic Garden under NBC to strengthen the Centre’s micropropagation and tissue culture capabilities. His mentorship will focus particularly on the propagation of native orchids, many of which face increasing threats in the wild.
Through this collaboration, Dr. Willyams is expected to contribute significantly to advancing plant conservation efforts and enhancing technical capacity in plant biotechnology at NBC.
