

A consultation meeting was held today with Mr. Ken Koh from Singapore to explore potential areas of collaboration in the wellness and biotechnology sectors. The meeting brought together representatives from key national institutions such as the National Mushroom Centre (NMC), Menjong Sorig Pharmaceuticals Corporation Limited and the National Biodiversity Centre (NBC).
Mr. Ken Koh shared insights into his professional journey and diverse business ventures. Mr. Koh first visited Bhutan in 2014 and has since maintained a strong interest in the country’s natural resources and sustainable potential. He is the founder of Nanyang Sauce, KitKoji, and Remission Biotech, which collectively span industries ranging from food production and skincare to advanced cancer therapeutics. His latest venture focuses on mining credits, reflecting his expanding interest in sustainability driven innovation.


The meeting also introduced emerging concepts relevant to Bhutan’s sustainability goals, including bioremediation, which involves the use of naturally occurring or introduced microorganisms to break down and remove environmental pollutants from contaminated sites. In addition, biomining was discussed as an innovative approach with potential environmental and economic benefits, particularly in the recovery of valuable minerals through biological processes.
The session concluded with sharing an overview of the implementation status Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) and biodiversity conservation approach in Bhutan. The meeting served as an important platform to exchange ideas and identify possible pathways for collaboration that align wellness and biotechnology with biodiversity conservation.
